Iron Beast Conditioning is an outstanding set of kettlebell training DVDs. We recently evaluated the product and came away with much more than expected. The market is far from flooded with kettlebell DVDs, but more are being produced every day.
Many of the newer titles are plagiaristic regurgitations of previous work. Iron Beast Conditioning is refreshingly original and should absolutely be in the library of every serious kettlebell lover.
Greg Mihovich owns and operates Underground Gym in Neptune City, NJ. Kettlebells have long been a staple of his fitness programs, and Greg has used them to train the general public as well as devotees of mixed martial arts.
Greg’s experience and expertise are evident in Iron Beast Conditioning. He confidently and effortlessly presents aver 80 kettlebell drills, ranging from basic to advanced to just plain wild.
Details
Iron Beast Conditioning spans a set of 3 DVDs and covers over 80 drills in 2.5 hours. At $70, that is an incredible bargain.
What we liked
IBC is best thought of as long term reference material. Absolute beginners may need to learn the basics elsewhere to get long, detailed dissertations on basic moves such as the kettlebell swing. We must emphasize that IBC does not spend 2.5 hours covering that ground again.
Instead, IBC includes concise demonstrations and instruction for a wild range of medium to advanced kettlebell drills. There is no fluff. Greg says in 10 words what other trainers might bloviate on for 300 words. So… when you need a refresher on the “double split snatch” two years from now, just turn on your DVD and get the information in less than 2 minutes. No crazy jargon, no obnoxious medical terminology, just clear instruction.
What could have been better
This entire series was filmed in Greg’s gym with a single camera. Given the insane amount of information delivered with obvious authority, the lack of set design and special effects can be forgiven. We do think multiple camera angles would have been a worthwhile addition to the overall production value.
A booklet is provided to help organize these 80+ drills into actual workouts. The workouts are top notch, but we would have liked to have seen a couple of full workouts presented in video form.
Summary
Iron Beast Conditioning is probably best for intermediate to advanced kettlebell enthusiasts. It is one of the most comprehensive, quality kettlebell products on the market. Buy it. You will love it.
