“Strong enough for a man, but made for a woman.” Too bad that marketing slogan is already taken. It perfectly describes Lauren Brooks’ new kettlebell DVD:

This is Lauren’s first DVD. We give it an unqualified “MUST BUY” rating for any budding kettle-belle. It features a solid instructional section covering 15 primary kettlebell drills. The instruction is crisp, to the point, and easy to follow. You’ll also find a nice joint mobility section for warm up & cool down. Finally, there are 2 follow-along workouts which efficiently combine both strength & cardio.

Details
Ultimate Body Sculpt and Conditioning with Kettlebells is a single 80 minute DVD. At $40, it is an excellent value for women who want to learn about kettlebell training.

What we liked
Mainstream women are often turned off or intimidated by most of the existing, basic kettlebell DVDs on the market. That is often due to marketing verbiage such as “evil Russian, hardcore, and brutal” which appeals to certain manly men and biker chicks.

Lauren has managed to cast kettlebell training in a more accessible, mainstream manner. The graphic design, production, and instruction are instantly appealing to modern women. That’s not to say it is watered down, soft, or girly. Rather, we’d describe the overall theme as Girl Power!

Brooks herself lends an important flavor to the success of this DVD. She is in incredible shape, with abs popping out all over the place. But, there are lots of women like that in mainstream fitness DVDs. Often those women are too bubbly to take seriously. I think most women will think of Lauren as just one of the girls. Someone you could comfortably dish with on a park bench while watching over the kids. Women will obviously see her ripped body, but won’t be intimidated.

Lauren will be particularly inspiring for new moms. She had a baby before the filming of this DVD and used kettlebells throughout the pregnancy. That credibility will resonate with new and old moms alike!

Production value is very good with multiple camera angles, a nice outdoor set, and an easy to navigate menu system. The workouts will be challenging for newcomers, but not as intimidating as other work-along DVDs on the market. I think that fact will empower more women to keep going with kettlebells. The drills are structured in timed sets (with a convenient timer bar to keep track of progress) with plenty of 1 minute rest periods.

What could have been better
It is hard to find something not to like here. The content is spot on, and that’s the most important part of any beginner kettlebell DVD. Nitpicky, but we would have preferred the DVD to be in a hi-def or at least widescreen format.

Summary
The Ultimate Body Sculpt and Conditioning with Kettlebells DVD (wow, that’s a mouthful!) is perfect for women who want to learn about kettlebell training. Don’t think twice, buy it today.

I watched the video for the first time yesterday and worked out alongside Lauren. It was amazing, and I feel sore, but so great today. Can't wait to do it again tomorrow. Thanks to beautiful Lauren, I will have a body like hers in no time!

I'm new to kettlebell training and found this video to be just what I needed. The exercise demonstrations are excellent and the workout is tough! I love it, thanks Lauren!

As a man who has been using KB's for quite some time and thought he would buy a "girly" dvd to help some female friends of his enjoy KB's, I was pleasantly surprised when I was summarily knocked onto my back side! The focus on total body, multi-joint, movements goes to show that when put together correctly even a so-called veteran can be humbled. It reminds one that just doing certain movements without a set plan is a recipe for failure, and that's what this DVD prevents. Looking for basic movements targeting every muscle at a good pace with good rest intervals in a fairly concise time frame? Looking for a nice joint-mobility routine to keep you loose and limber for years to come? Well here it is! Much to my surprise and pleasure since I was not, in fact, looking for something to add to my routine but boy (or girl!) did I find it!

I really enjoyed Lauren's DVD. As noted in the review, she seems to be very down to earth and approchable. She is not overly bubbly or drill sergent like. The DVD is well structured, easy to follow and to the point.
I am pretty sure it will become a staple of my rotations.

I bought Lauren's DVD in July and it quickly became a top 5 kettlebell DVD in my collection. I have a vast collection of kettlebell DVDs from AOS, Cotter, Maxwell, Dragon Door, and other least known instructors, and what I really like about Lauren's workout is the format she chose to use in the workouts.

Lauren's circuits contain a strength and endurance round, and each circuit is done twice. Even though the workout starts off easy, it's very tough towards the end, especially mentally.

There's a shorter workout on this DVD, which is perfect as a add-on before or after a cardio workout.

I won't go into an in depth review, because the author did an excellent job reviewing this workout.

The only negative thing I have to say about Lauren's first adventure is the DVD case itself. The case is cheaply made and it arrived severely damaged. But, kudos to Lauren for sending out a replacement case.

I LOVE this DVD, I love having the shorter option, it's really intense and really fun.

Thanks to all of you very much for the positive feedback.

Trevor, In the DVD there is a Joint Mobility section which you can use before or/and after each workout. I am very pleased to hear that your back was not agitated from the full squat. This is definitely a workout that uses moves that you would encounter in real life. If you have any questions feel free to email me. Just take it slow because of your injury but if you can do that full squat you can probably ease in to the swing just fine.

Hi Debbie,

So glad you love the workouts and the format of the DVD. About the DVD case. I actually went to the higher end of the market and spent much more money than most of the companies on duplication. I have only replaced 1 case out of 500 sales, so it seems to me that the post office was not very kind to this one. Sorry about that again! Enjoy the workouts and thank you for the comments!

I'm new to the kettlebell workout and purchased Lauren Brook's dvd after researching and reviewing online. It is a great workout from beginning to end. Lauren's instructional section is so informative, clear and concise. I make sure I perform the joint mobility before each workout. I was very sore in the beginning using a ten pound weight but now I have graduated to a 15 pounder. I love the workout and can see a diiference in my overall appearance. Thanks Lauren for a great product!!
