Anthony Diluglio’s Art of Strength: Providence was the first DVD of its kind in the kettlebell world – a work-along circuit. But more than just a work-along, this DVD lets you customize the sound track and has an on-screen timer so you can tell how much time remains in a round and when to switch exercises.

Providence is a fifteen round circuit workout. The DVD walks you through each round, giving a quick demo of each lift. If you have a little experience with kettlebells, you will be fine. If you’ve never touched one before, you really need to get some training with a certified kettlebell instructor for your safety.

Diluglio’s creativity in exercise selection is evident on this disc. Providence covers all ranges of kettlebell work: standard swings, cleans, snatches, and even some advanced juggling movements. It will turn the serious practitioner into a well-rounded athlete.

The DVD sells for $49.95 from the Art of Strength website and is an outstanding value. The DVD was shot in Providence, Rhode Island and was very well done. The on-screen timer and music help make this a top-notch production.

The workout is fourteen 2 minute rounds and one 3 minute “bonus” round as a finisher. Some rounds are ladder based, others may have 2 exercises that are switched every 30 seconds. Still others may be 2 minutes of the same exercise… which is tough!

The rounds build up in intensity through the ninth round and back off a bit from there, but Diluglio crafted the workout such that you are hitting one area of the body, then moving to another while still doing full-body movements. For example round one is swings and round two is dead clean ladders - similar movements but utilizing and emphasizing different muscle groups. Some rounds serve as active rests and are more focused on flexibility and mobility.

I use this workout a lot in my group classes. The more I use it, the more versatile I have found it. Some clients go a little lighter and work faster. Others go heavy for a more strength focused workout.

Even though this DVD has been around for two years or so, it is one of the best on the market and I highly recommend it to ALL serious kettlebellers! See video clips and more info here.
