Art of Strength: Newport is the second work-along kettlebell DVD by Anthony Diluglio and is easily one of the best kettlebell DVDs on the market.

This workout is a circuit with 10 rounds including a 5 min snatch set at the end. It is a very tough workout and includes some fairly athletic movements such as the overhead lunge.

Filmed in Newport, Rhode Island, the production value is top-notch. Diluglio does an excellent job of presenting the exercises and taking you through the workout. The DVD sells for $49.99 at the AOS website and is a great buy.

With Newport, the rounds vary. Some are 3 minutes, some are 4 minutes, and a few are 2 minutes. Compared to Anthony's first DVD, AOS: Providence, this workout introduces more athletic movements.

For example the Cossack stretch: While holding a kettlebell in front of the chest, Anthony takes this basic stretch and turns it into a power stretch. It really hits the muscles between the shoulder blades as well as getting you deeper into the stretch.

This workout is not for the faint of heart.
Use a moderate weight kettlebell or you will regret it!

I use this workout in my group classes and my students groan every time I mention it. When I took a poll of most and least favorite workouts, Newport was the least liked because it is so tough.

Newport requires a hard driving mindset and mental toughness to get through unless you use really light kettlebells. Personally I use a 24kg bell for most of the exercises and it is brutal.

If you are an intermediate to advanced kettlebell trainee, then this workout will make you stronger and rapidly improve your cardio-vascular system. With the finishing round of a 5 minute snatch set, Newport will probably leave you lying in a pool of sweat at the end! It’s great fun.
